THE SIXTH SENSE

I saw this in Hoyt’s cinema in Bangor, Maine. Yes, the very cinema in Stephen King’s hometown where his son fell in love with the popcorn girl. I just happened to be in town stalking the world’s greatest author. Anyway, it is not a very handsome or well appointed cinema but it will do.

This ghost story is very effective and more so for being quite understated. Bruce Willis turns in another excellent performance but the honours must go to Haley Joel Osment, the child actor at the centre of the story. He sees dead people all the time (the character, not the actor) and spends his life in terror as a result. Brucey has the task of winning his confidence and dealing with the fear which of course he achieves in spades whilst also dealing with the sub-plot of his wife beginning an affair with another man.

As any fule do kno Molesworth, the film is famous for its clever twist so I can say no more. I guessed it early on though Warrior Mouse says she didn’t see it coming. Even if you guess it I don’t think it spoils the film but only you can decide.

A good film. Not excellent, but well crafted, scripted and acted.
